Leicester manager Claude Puel has talked up new signing Fousseni Diabate after he bagged a brace on his debut in the FA Cup victory over Peterborough.

The Mali Under-23 international joined Leicester, who are priced at 15.00 to win the FA Cup, earlier this month from Gazetec Ajaccio on a four-and-a-half-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Diabate is a versatile forward who can play as a central striker or on the wing and he has impressed during his early years in France.

Puel initially planned on holding Diabate back for a while to allow him the opportunity to settle in with the under-23 side before eventually stepping into the first team.

However, the forward has caught his eye in training and was handed his debut in Saturday’s fourth-round FA Cup meeting with Peterborough.

The 22-year-old made a fast start to his life in England as he hit the back of the net just nine minutes into the tie before adding his second late on to help Leicester claim a 5-1 triumph.

Puel believes Diabate is showing all the qualities required to be a star in the Premier League and has urged his new charge to continue working hard in training as their attention now turns to Everton on Wednesday.

“Fousseni has good attributes to play in the Premier League with lots of pace and a good engine. He has good penetration and showed good combinations with his team-mates,” Puel said.

“It was good for him to show his quality but he has to continue to work hard on the training pitch and take things step-by-step.”
