Chelsea defender David Luiz has urged his troops to focus on beating Southampton on Tuesday evening.

The Blues boosted their hopes of a domestic double by beating Tottenham 4-2 in the semi-finals of the FA Cup on Saturday and with them four points clear of Spurs in the standings, will hope that victory will have helped them land a significant psychological blow.

Tuesday’s visit of Southampton will see them chasing a 12th home win in 13 outings in the league and they are 1.44 to triumph, with the draw 4.50 and the Saints, who won at Stamford Bridge last season, 8.00.

Eyebrows were raised when Luiz re-joined the Blues in the summer having suffered his fair share of defensive lapses in his first spell at the club but he has been a reassuring presence at the heart of Antonio Conte’s back three.

The Brazilian was again impressive against Tottenham and will fancy himself to repeat the trick on Tuesday.

Speaking ahead of the match, the 30-year-old has praised the spirit his side showed on Saturday but insists they cannot afford to slip-up against Claude Puel’s men.

He told the club’s official website: “It was a big game [against Tottenham], we knew it would be tough against fantastic players, but we are very happy because we won.

“Now we think about the next challenge, against Southampton. “The Premier League is a different competition, we know Spurs are a fantastic team and they won’t be too down just because they lost one game, so it will be difficult until the end.”
