Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta believes Saturday’s dramatic comeback victory over Watford was a huge step in the right direction.
The Blues have made a sluggish start to their title defence and look to be struggling to compete on a number of fronts after returning to the Champions League.
Chelsea, who are priced at 19.00 to win the Premier League, ended a run of three games without a win in all competitions to see off the Hornets at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
Azpilicueta scored Chelsea’s third goal to help them come from 2-1 down and eventually claim all three points courtesy of a 4-2 triumph.
Michy Batshuayi netted a brace from the bench with Pedro also bagging one to see the defending champions up to fourth.
The west Londoners still sit nine points shy of leaders Manchester City after nine games but Azpilicueta insists they can look ahead positively with a win under their belts.
Azpilicueta told Chelsea’s official website: “We were three games without winning so it’s important to step up and get back to winning ways.
“We know it’s a long season and we will have ups and downs. This has been a difficult period but this is the first step to get out and get our confidence up.”
Chelsea will have the opportunity to make it back-to-back victories when they return to action in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday at Stamford Bridge.
