Burnley centre-back James Tarkowski believes the entire squad deserves credit for the Clarets’ impressive defensive displays so far this season.

Only the two Manchester clubs have conceded fewer goals than Burnley so far this term, with the Clarets boasting that impressive record despite facing difficult fixtures against Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool over the opening weeks of the campaign.

Former Brentford defender Tarkowski, who only became a regular in Sean Dyche’s side following the departure of Michael Keane during the summer, has received particular praise for his performances, but he believes the entire team deserves credit for their defensive resilience.

“We’re there to defend, that’s our main objective in the game, to stop goals going into our net,” Tarkowski said.

“We’ve played some tough teams and been worked hard, but the back four and even the front lads have stuck to that.

“I think that’s the case throughout the team. “I know the defence gets a lot of praise for getting the blocks in and the clearances, but the front lads work just as hard as we do to stop the ball getting that far up the pitch.”

Burnley are currently sixth in the Premier League standings and they will head into their home clash with West Ham on Saturday having only conceded once in the top flight at Turf Moor this term.

The Clarets are priced at 2.63 to secure all three points from Saturday’s match, while the Hammers are available at 2.88 and the draw is on offer at 3.20.
