Brighton defender Shane Duffy is hopeful his team can potentially stop Manchester City winning the title when they meet up on Sunday.

A late Vincent Kompany wonder strike for City against Leicester on Sunday means that the Citizens have the title race in their own hands.

They travel to Brighton on Sunday, with the Seagulls safe from relegation following Cardiff’s loss at home to Crystal Palace on Saturday, while Liverpool are at home to Wolves.

Brighton have little to play for except pride, but Duffy says their motivation is to try and get a result which may stop City from lifting their second consecutive Premier League trophy.

If City fail to get three points it opens the door to Liverpool who could taste top-flight triumph for the first time since 1990, and Duffy says the occasion will add something extra to the game.

He said: “It’s been a tight (title) race and it’s come down to the final game of the campaign.

“We know we’ll have to defend well again and try and be at our best – we’ll just try to win the game, if they beat us then they win the league and it’s as simple as that, so we’ll just go out there with a determination and belief that we can get a result.

“We know the occasion, but we have to focus on ourselves in the final game of the season in front of our home fans.”

Brighton can be backed at 17.00 for one of the most unlikely twists in the Premier League race, while City are available at 1.17 to finish the job as expected.
