Arsene Wenger insists Arsenal’s priority remains to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League rather than winning the Europa League.

The Gunners currently sit sixth in the top-flight standings, a full eight points behind fourth-placed Chelsea, with just 11 league matches to play in the campaign.

It will take a monumental effort for Arsenal to force their way into the top four between now and the end of the season which means they are unlikely to secure a place in next season’s Champions League via the league.

However, Wenger’s side could claim a place at Europe’s top table by winning the Europa League.

The north Londoners are well placed to book their place in the last 16 as they lead Ostersunds by three goals to nil ahead of the second leg of their tie at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday night.

Wenger is hopeful of enjoying an extended run in the competition although he insists his priority remains a top-four finish in the league.

The Frenchman said: “We will focus to do well but ideally we want to go back to the Champions League through the Premier League.”

Arsenal also have the Carabao Cup final coming up as they take on Manchester City at Wembley on Sunday.

The Gunners are priced at 3.00 to lift the trophy at the expense of the Citizens, who are available at 1.33.
