Juan Mata believes Manchester United must quickly regain their winning mentality if they are to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League this season.
The Spain international, who joined from Chelsea in the January transfer window for a club-record fee, is determined to continue playing Champions League football going into next season.
United currently sit 11 points off fourth-placed Liverpool and will have to put together a winning run together quickly if they are to stand any chance of chasing down their old rivals.
Mata has admitted the squad at Old Trafford have one goal in mind at present and that he and his team-mates are desperate to ensure the Red Devils continue playing with the elite in European football next season.
He told Canal Plus: “The objective is to get to the Champions League spots.
“It’s difficult because Liverpool are doing well, so are Arsenal, as well as Tottenham and Everton, who are all clubs also fighting for them, but I think we have a team who can do it.
“This is Manchester United. When this club wins two, three or four matches in a row, it has a winner’s mentality.
“We are coming and I think we can do it, but we have to win a lot of games first.”
United are next in action on Saturday when they take on Crystal Palace, with manager David Moyes and his men at 1.59 to win and 5.85 to lose to the Eagles at Selhurst Park.
