Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho has denied he is close to leaving the club despite speculation linking him with a move to Manchester United or Arsenal.

The 22-year-old is reportedly wanted by both Premier League clubs before the end of the transfer window, which shuts on Monday night at 11pm.

Carvalho is rumoured to have a £37million release clause in his contract but Sporting are reportedly willing to listen to offers above £20m.

Arsenal are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of a title push but their focus appears to be on a striker with Olivier Giroud injured until January.

The Red Devils, meanwhile, are eager to bolster their squad after a poor start to the season under Louis van Gaal. They have already added Angel di Maria and Ander Herrera to their midfield but they were thought to be willing to offload several fringe players to finalise the deal to sign Carvalho.

Carvalho, who has six caps for Portugal, has been linked with a move all summer but Sporting claim they have yet to receive a bid for his services.

Despite the speculation, Carvalho has now distanced himself with any move before Monday’s deadline.

He said: “I have a deal with Sporting and I am a player of Sporting.

“My present is this club and I am feeling very good with Sporting. It really has not entered my head to leave Sporting on the last day.”
