Mauricio Pochettino felt it was very much two points dropped rather than one gained after Spurs drew 1-1 with Premier League champions Leicester City at White Hart Lane.

The home side did most of the pressing in the first half but seemed likely to go in level after Dele Alli rattled the crossbar late in the period.

Summer signing Vincent Janssen got his first Premier League goal from the penalty spot in the final minute of the half, having been dragged down by Robert Huth.

Spurs lead was short lived however. Victor Wanyama’s poor header allowed Jamie Vardy to tee up Ahmed Musa for the leveller three minutes after the interval.

The home side pressed hard for a winner, Janssen and Christian Eriksen going close while Jan Vertonghen also hit the crossbar with a late header, but it was not to be.

The draw means Tottenham are now three points off leading trio Man City, Liverpool and Arsenal – who all won on Saturday – and Pochettino says the draw with Leicester was a big let-down given how the game panned out.

“We were very disappointed with the way we conceded the goal,” Pochettino told Sky Sports. “They had only one shot on target, all the stats are in our favour, and we feel very disappointed after that game.

“We deserved more, we played better and were the team always trying to win the game. It’s a bit of a shame that we only took one point. It’s an important point for them but we have lost two points.”

Pochettino was pleased to see Janssen break his Premier League duck, admitting the Dutchman has been playing well without seeing the rewards as he continues to lead the line in Harry Kane’s absence. “We are happy with the way he is playing.

I understand it is a lot of pressure because Harry [Kane] is injured, but he works very hard every day,” he added. Spurs are 1.91 to finish in the top four this season while Pochettino’s team are 13.00 to win the title.
