Petr Cech says the Arsenal squad is focussed on winning silverware and not the uncertainty over boss Arsene Wenger’s future.
After losing on the opening weekend of the campaign, the Gunners are currently unbeaten in their last 12 matches in all competitions.
Despite Saturday’s disappointing draw with Middlesbrough, they look a more complete outfit this time around and this could be the season which they win their first Premier League title since the ‘Invincibles’ of 2003-04, a feat they are 6.00 to achieve.
Wenger was due to deliver his annual speech at the club’s AGM on Monday and was expected to be given a much more welcoming reception than in other years when he has been openly questioned by the shareholders.
However, with his contract set to expire in the summer, doubts remain over whether he will stay at the club, especially with the FA believed to be keen on appointing him as England boss.
Cech admits the players are keen to see the Frenchman stay at the Emirates Stadium, but says they will not get involved in the off-field situation, as their focus is currently on winning trophies.
The goalkeeper said: “Of course. If we are successful, if we keep winning games and we’re all going in the right direction, then everybody’s happy, obviously.
“I think we leave that [Wenger’s future] with the boss and with the club, and we concentrate every day to be ready, to be competitive and to win as many games as possible.
I think that is our main target.” He added: “Obviously as for the manager and the players the future is always uncertain in football, but you work every day to be successful and this is what we can do.”
Arsenal are next in action in the EFL Cup on Tuesday against Reading, a game they are 1.25 to win, with the draw 6.00 and the Royals 9.50.
