Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes believes Juventus’ Paul Pogba is not worth £100million, while insisting new signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic will have to work hard.

United, who are priced at 4.50 to win the Premier League, have been courting Pogba all summer as they look to bring him back to Old Trafford, with recent speculation suggesting a deal is close.

Reports claim that United will have to part with a fee in the region of £100million to secure the services of the man who left for free in 2012.

Scholes was still involved with the Red Devils when Pogba was handed his debut by Alex Ferguson but the France international decided to leave in search of more regular football.

However, Scholes believes the midfielder is not worth a world record transfer fee, and feels only the likes of Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo can command that kind of price tag.

Scholes said: “He was a very talented player. “I played with him quite a lot.

“If you ask me, at that time his agent was asking for a lot of money for a player who did not play first-team football except once or twice. “Okay he has gone on to great things and there was a massive improvement in him.

I just don’t think he is a player worth £100m-plus right now.

“For that money, you would need a player who scores 50-plus goals a season, like Ronaldo or Messi. Pogba is not there yet.”

The Old Trafford side have already been busy in the summer transfer window with Zlatan Ibrahimovic drafted in to spearhead the attack.

Ibrahimovic arrives on the back of an impressive spell with Paris Saint-Germain but Scholes feels he will have to work harder to be a success in England.

He added: “He was playing at PSG and there were a lot of chances created and it was easy to score in that league.

“Is the United team as good as the PSG team? Not yet, maybe it will be. So in this league he will have to do a lot himself to score goals.”
