Paris Saint-Germain star Maxwell says he is excited about the extra “adrenaline” that comes with facing Marseille ahead of Sunday’s first Classique of the season.

Les Parisiens have endured a mixed campaign to date under new boss Unai Emery, currently sitting third in the standings following Monaco’s crushing 6-2 win over Montpellier on Friday.

It is surprise package Nice who lead the way but it appears that PSG are finally finding their rhythm after winning five of their last six in all competitions.

Marseille themselves have picked up in recent weeks, taking seven points from their last three outings but are yet to win away this season.

PSG are 1.29 to win on Sunday, with the draw 5.50 and Franck Passi’s men 10.00 to claim all three points at the Parc des Princes.

Maxwell was one of the first big names to join PSG’s project following their takeover by Qatar Sports Investments in 2012 and has been a regular in their recent dominance, helping the club win four straight Ligue 1 titles.

The Brazilian, who has previously played in derbies for the likes of Ajax, Inter Milan and Barcelona, admits he gets an extra buzz from playing in Le Classique and is raring to go ahead of Sunday’s clash.

He told the club’s official website: “There’s always a lot of adrenaline. We speak about the Classico every week. Having that feeling in your stomach is very important for the big matches.

“Win or lose, we’ll do all we can to stay on the winning track and bridge the gap between us and league leaders Nice. So right now, we’re confident and raring to go for this big match.”
