Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew has confirmed he wants to sign Darren Bent and Loic Remy from Aston Villa and QPR respectively.

Pardew is looking to boost his forward options which were limited last season and relied on Papiss Cisse on far too many occasions.

The Magpies were close to relegation following a difficult campaign and in an attempt to avoid the same outcome, owner Mike Ashley has added Joe Kinnear to the set-up to assist Pardew as director of football.

Bent is currently out of favour at Aston Villa and is well down the pecking order, while Remy could be available following QPR’s relegation to the Championship.

Remy was on Pardew’s radar last January but Harry Redknapp pipped the former West Ham boss to his signature.

Pardew admitted to the Northern Echo that both players are being considered by the club.

He said: “I make no bones about that. But they are under contract at other clubs. It’s difficult, you have to be careful. It’s nice for our fans to hear names, but I don’t want to disrupt other clubs’ preparations.

“We have a list of four or five strikers who will push Papiss Cisse, Shola Ameobi, Adam Campbell and Yoan Gouffran because that will be important next season. We do need two strikers.

“Last year, I didn’t think there was enough competition in that area for a Premier League team.”
