Mesut Ozil says Arsenal’s “huge ambition” was one of the main reasons he sealed a deadline-day move to the Emirates.
The Germany international ended weeks of speculation over his future by joining the Gunners after three years with Real Madrid.
Arsenal had to smash their transfer record to sign Ozil, who moves to north London for a fee in the region on £43million.
Despite some claims last week that the 24-year-old was not keen on leaving the Bernabeu, Ozil insists he is looking forward to a new challenge and has high hopes for the future.
The midfielder indicated that winning the league title was the main aim and he was impressed with what Arsene Wenger and club officials had to say.
The former Werder Bremen and Schalke man talked up the “stature” of his new club and is looking forward to playing in the Premier League for the first time.
Ozil said: “It will be great for my own personal development as a player and I am particularly looking forward to working with Arsene Wenger.
“From our negotiations it is clear the club has huge ambition and I look forward to being part of an exciting future.”
The 24-year-old, who is still looking for his first club trophy, could be in line for his first start against Sunderland when the Premier League returns after the international break.
