Newcastle go into their clash with Everton at St James’ Park looking to avoid a fifth successive defeat.

Defender Steven Taylor believes the Toon showed Manchester United too much respect in their 3-1 loss at Old Trafford on Friday and he wants to get back to the ‘in their face’ attitude that helped Alan Pardew’s side gun down league leaders Chelsea earlier in December.

“We should have been right in their faces and put a few tackles in during the first five or 10 minutes like we did against Chelsea,” Taylor said of the 3-1 defeat to United.

“We need to put pressure on the opposition. We need to test them out. If you give them that much respect, anyone can look good and we made them look good.”

Newcastle are 2.74 to beat Everton (2.62) with Dafabet while the draw is 3.29.

Everton have lost their last two games against Southampton and Stoke but Taylor is fully aware of the danger presented by the Toffees.

“They have good players left, right and centre that will hurt you if you give them time on the ball, so it’s up to us to stand up and put our head in the way.”

Newcastle suffered at the hands of the neighbours Sunderland in their previous home game when Adam Johnson scored the only goal of the game late on to stun the hosts.

Everton walked with all three points in this fixture back in March courtesy of goals from Ross Barkley, Romelu Lukaku and Leon Osman.
