They got their Champions League campaign started on a bright note courtesy of a goal from skipper Giovanni Di Lorenzo and an own goal in between, an equaliser from the hosts.
Although Napoli created better chances with more shots on targets than their hosts, they were saved by the post in the dying minutes, and the host could have secured a draw.
Braga at the Stadio Municipal began to gain more possession, giving them more confidence after skipper Giovanni Di Lorenzo had given Napoli the lead in the added period of the first half.
Braga continued to look for the equaliser, and that finally came via a wonderful header after receiving a sumptuous cross from Halazar.
This spurred the hosts to believe more that they could get a win in a bid to punish Napoli, who could have had the match in the bag if they had converted their early chances.
The most relieved among the Azzurri will be Zielenki, who had a chance to release a cut back to Osihmen in the box but chose to go for the goal, and his effort eventually went wide.
The Partenopei went into the clash having gathered just one point from their last two Serie A games.
The lack of confidence after the transition to new coach Rudi Garcia seems obvious.
In their last participation in Europe, Braga lost home and away to Fiorentina last season in the Conference League.
Osimhen failed to open the scoring within five minutes when he pounced on a poor Jose Fonte back-pass but fired straight at Matheus.
The goalkeeper was also called into action when he made a stunning double save on headers from Osimhen and Giovanni Di Lorenzo in the same move.
Osimhen had another chance, but his scorcher from the edge of the area cannoned against the crossbar.
Napoli was awarded a penalty when a shot was parried into the path of Osimhen, who could not get the tap-in because of Niakate. Still, the decision was overturned after the referee viewed it again on VAR, which showed that the Napoli striker crashed into the defender instead.
The Partenopei finally got the opener on the stroke of half-time. Osimhen knocked down a Kvicha Kvaratskhelia cross from the left, and Di Lorenzo smashed it on the volley off the underside of the crossbar.
Napoli were eventually punished for their missed chances as Braga equalised with one of their very few attempts on target. After Napoli lost the ball cheaply playing out of defence, Zalazar’s cross found the Bruma glancing header.
But they were lucky to restore their lead four minutes later, as Zielinski’s cross-shot was redirected clumsily into his net by Niakate.
They could have been lucky as Braga could have equalised with the final kick of the game when Pizzi thumped the near post from the tightest of angles.
