Aston Villa midfielder Mile Jedinak insists his side can go all the way this season but they must start playing with consistency.

After being relegated from the Premier League last season, the Villans were expected to challenge for promotion this year under new boss Roberto Di Matteo.

However, they have endured a dismal start to life in the Championship after winning just one of their first eight matches.

They beat Rotherham United after losing to Sheffield Wednesday on the opening day before drawing with Huddersfield, Derby, Nottingham Forest, Brentford and Ipswich, as well as losing to Bristol City.

Villa, 5.50 to get promoted, currently sit 18th in the Championship table ahead of their clash with Newcastle United, but Jedinak insists the team will prosper once they find their rhythm.

He told the EFL Weekly Podcast: “It’s such a big football club, it needs to be in the right place. If we could do something well this year, on and off the field, I think the sky’s the limit with this football club.

“Who hasn’t heard of Aston Villa? Anyone following the league growing up would have known of Aston Villa.

“We’ve got guys here whose football ability is not in question, and that’s something that needs to be finely tuned, and that comes with work ethic and setting standards.

“I’ve tried to instil what I believe in and what I do on a daily basis, and not get caught up with what’s happened before, it’s about trying to come in with a fresh idea and fresh approach.”
