Caretaker manager Mike Phelan insists he wants his future to be sorted quickly following Hull City’s late comeback against Burnley on Saturday.

The Tigers, 2.00 to be relegated, looked to be losing the contest after Burnley midfielder Steven Defour gave his side the lead with time running out.

Sean Dyche’s men were seconds away from victory but Hull winger Robert Snodgrass had other ideas at Turf Moor.

The former Leeds United and Norwich City star scored a free-kick in injury-time to ensure his side moved up to seventh in the Premier League table.

Hull have enjoyed a solid start to the season, just weeks after Steve Bruce left the club following a lack of support in the transfer market.

Despite the uncertainty, Phelan insists he wants the job after getting the best out of his players.

Wins over Leicester and Swansea have given the Tigers plenty of confidence and Phelan admits he wants the job on a permanent basis.

He told Sky Sports: “I’ve made it pretty clear I want to be in charge of this group of players. I think the players have made it quite clear too.

“At one point I thought we were playing really well, we might win the game and then it’s over to negotiations again…then at 1-0 down you think maybe not, maybe another week.

“But I’m sure things will get resolved. They probably will do, one way or another.

We haven’t fallen out or done anything drastic, we’re taking it day by day and hopefully another week doesn’t go by without it being resolved.”
