Marcus Rashford’s second-half goal was more than enough as Manchester United got a 1-0 win away at Real Betis in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday evening. The Red Devils won the first leg of the tie 4-1, and it was the English forward who opened the scoring last week after just six minutes.

However, Thursday’s goal didn’t come as easily as expected as the Spaniards tried to get back into the tie. Unfortunately, they fell behind before the hour mark as Rashford scored his sixth goal in the European competition this season.

It is the second time in the playoffs of this season’s UEFA Europa League that Manchester United will be getting past Spanish opponents after beating Barcelona in the previous round.

Manchester United continued into the quarterfinal of the competition, with Harry Maguire explaining that the Red Devils performed well in the two games.

“It’s been a good two games over the two legs. Betis are a good team; they’re fifth in La Liga. We knew it wouldn’t be an easy draw. They came at us and threw everything at us. But we expected a fast start from them. We knew if we didn’t concede in the first 20 minutes, it would have been a big part of the game well done. In the second half, we controlled the game really well, we got the goal we deserved, and after that, we played well.” Maguire said.

Manchester United will now face Fulham in the FA Cup at the weekend, which will be their last game before the first international break in 2023.

England and three Lions manager Gareth Southgate invited Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, and Marcus Rashford, among other players invited, for England’s Euro 2024 qualifiers next week. The finalists in the last edition will face Italy and Ukraine in their first two qualification games.

Arsenal, meanwhile, lost on penalties to Sporting CP and will now exit the Europa League.
