Manchester United have been urged to try and persuade Gareth Bale to return to the Premier League if they want to become champions once again next season.

That is the view of Harry Redknapp, who was Bale’s manager at Tottenham Hotspur, before the Wales wing wizard moved to join Spanish giants Real Madrid.

However, after two seasons in the Spanish capital, there is talk of Bale being tempted to return to English football and Redknapp believes that the Welsh star would give United the edge in what looks like being a tense title tussle.

He told the Metro: “If he went to United I’d suddenly believe they could win the league. He has everything and can score 20 goals a year for you.

“His first year at Real Madrid was fantastic and, although last year didn’t go so well, he is a fantastic talent.

“If you said to me I could sign one player in the world, well you’d sign Messi, Ronaldo or Suarez, but after that it would be Gareth.”

Bale helped Real win the Champions League in his first season with the club, 2013/14, scoring in the 4-1 final victory over Madrid rivals Atletico, while he ended the campaign with more than 20 goals in all competitions.

Last term, however, Bale managed 17 goals for Real, with Los Merengues finishing second behind Barcelona in La Liga and being knocked out of the Champions League in the semi-finals by Juventus.

Real are 2.40 to regain the Spanish title next season, while Barca are 1.67 to retain their crown.
