Manchester City star Yaya Toure could miss the rest of the season after limping off in the defeat to Liverpool on Sunday.

The Ivory Coast midfielder suffered what appeared to be a groin injury after taking a shot on the Liverpool goal and had to be removed from the action.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini has now admitted Toure could miss City’s final six Premier League games.

“It will be difficult for Yaya Toure to finish playing this season,” said the Chilean.

City are now seven points behind table toppers Liverpool and Sunday’s 3-2 defeat at Anfield was a real blow to their title chances.

However, Pellegrini insists they can still secure Premier League glory this season if they win all their remaining games, as Liverpool still have to play second-placed Chelsea in their final run-in.

He added: “if we win our two games in hand we will be a point behind Liverpool, who still have to play Chelsea. The title does not finish today.

“We are still going to fight. A lot of things will happen between now and the end of the season.”

City face struggling Sunderland on Tuesday at the Etihad Stadium and take on West Brom (h), Crystal Palace (a), Everton (a), Aston Villa (h) and West Ham (h) in their remaining fixtures.

Pellegrini’s side can be backed at 1.16 to beat Sunderland on Tuesday and 3.30 to win the Premier League outright.
Liverpool are 1.78 to win the league and Chelsea can be backed at 5.50.
