Vincent Kompany is confident that Manchester City will make the signings needed to challenge for the Premier League title.

Having topped the standings in 2013/14, the Citizens struggled for consistency last term and eventually had to settle for second behind Chelsea.

Their form previously appeared to cast doubt over the future of boss Manuel Pellegrini but now the board have settled on keeping the Chilean, he is likely to have money to spend in the coming weeks.

City also recently had their restrictions on spending lifted after meeting Financial Fair Play targets and are now free to splash the cash on the big names, with them already having two bids for Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling rejected.

Kompany’s Belgian international team-mate Kevin De Bruyne of Wolfsburg has also been mentioned as a target, while Juventus starlet Paul Pogba is another on their radar.

The City skipper admits the club need to bring in some fresh faces to reinvigorate the side and is confident the board will do what is required to get the squad back up to scratch.

“I think it is key to the success of any top club,” he told Sky Sports News HQ. “It is maybe not always the amount of players that come but I think every top club in the world will be looking to add two or three quality players to make the team that little bit stronger.

“If you don’t do it, you are obviously exposed to other teams becoming stronger. I am hoping and I am confident we will make the right signings.”

City are currently the 3.75 second favourites to win the Premier League title, with champions Chelsea leading the betting at 2.50.
