WBC world super-middleweight champions Badou Jack believes George Groves is the perfect man for him to face in his first title defence.

The Swede, who is the 2.40 underdog to retain his crown, claimed the belt in April with a majority decision against American Anthony Direll and is now set to meet the ‘Saint’ at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on August 22.

Following his pair of defeats to Carl Froch, Groves has been working his way back up the ladder with a unanimous decision victory over Christopher Rebrasse, before knocking out Denis Douglin last November.

August’s fight against Jack will represent another step up for the Londoner as he looks to become a world champion for the first time in his career and is the favourite going into the fight at 1.57.

The Super-middleweight bout for the WBC belt is sure to be a thrilling affair and the Stockholm fighter believes Groves is the best man for him to face in his first defence.

“This is a perfect opponent for my first fight as champion,” Jack told BoxingScene.com. “He’s the number one contender and is proven at world level.

“These are the challenges I want. It’s what I expected going in to the Dirrell fight. I’m champion now, there’s no sense in going backwards.

“I know that Groves is coming to get what I want, so I’m training like I’m the challenger, like I have to take the world title from him. As far as I’m concerned, I’m training like this will be a tougher fight than Anthony Dirrell.”
