Manchester United boss David Moyes has admitted that his side’s defending let them down in the 2-0 defeat to Everton on Sunday.
United’s defence was once again at fault as they crashed to defeat at Goodison Park, with Everton able to beat them both home and away for the first time in 44 years.
Moyes was returning to his former club for the first time since he left last summer and his side fell behind after a Phil Jones handball. The defender handled Romelu Lukaku’s shot inside the box and that allowed Leighton Baines to step up and fire Everton in front.

Kevin Mirallas then doubled their lead as he beat the offside trap and managed to remain calm as he slotted the ball into the net. Despite dominating possession for large parts of the game, Moyes was quick to slam his side’s defending after the game.
He told Sky Sports: “We gave away two terrible goals. Prior to that we passed the ball really well, kept the ball, had great control of the game. What we couldn’t do was make enough chances.
“We had a great control and we got done by two stupid decisions – a stupid decision to dive in front of the ball for one of them – two poor goals to give away.
“I thought we played very well in the first half. We came in 2-0 down but had been passing the ball really well.
“But we didn’t have a final through-pass at times, we didn’t have a final finish when they came – there weren’t very many of them. That was the disappointing part, that we couldn’t do that bit in the final third.”
United will be looking to bounce back next weekend when they take on Norwich at Old Trafford and can be backed at 1.39 to win, with the draw 4.59 and the Canaries 6.15 to win.
