Ander Herrera says he has no desire to rest on an impressive first season for Manchester United and is keen to improve.

The 25-year-old moved to Old Trafford last summer from Athletic Club for a fee in the region of £29million on a four-year contract in the first transfer of manager Louis van Gaal’s tenure.

The La Liga club initially rejected the offer but Herrera activated a clause in his contract that allowed the move to go ahead and he has scored a career-best eight goals in his first season in England.

The Spanish midfielder said he was satisfied with his progress in a challenging and transitional campaign but revealed he is keen to kick on.

“It has been a tough season, a lot of change at the club and a lot of change in the squad, but I am happy with my development,” he told MUTV.

“Of course I have to keep improving and keep going, but eight goals for a midfielder is a good stat.

“I am an ambitious player so I want to keep improving. There are 25 players in the squad and I have to fight a lot if I want to play.”

Herrera said he appreciated the warmth shown by United supporters in his breakthrough season for the club.

He added: “I came to a massive club and everyone has made me feel like I am at home, so I am very grateful to everyone.

“I can only say our supporters are fantastic, they have made me feel unbelievable. When we did not play so good, they were supporting us so I am thankful for that.”

The former champions will end the season in the fourth and final Champions League spot, ahead of nearest-challengers and bitter rivals Liverpool.

They travel to take on Hull City on Sunday and are priced 2.15 in the match betting. The draw outcome is available to back at 3.50 and Steve Bruce’s relegation-threatened side are available to back at 3.20.
