Manchester United veteran Ryan Giggs believes Juan Mata can go on to become an all-time great at Old Trafford having made his move from Chelsea in January.

The Spain international was brought in by manager David Moyes to add some quality into the midfield where United have struggled in the Premier League this season.

Already Mata has made an impact on his new team-mates, with a number of players being impressed by what the 25-year-old has brought to the squad.

Giggs is the latest to give his opinion on the playmaker and when asked if Mata could become a United great, the Welshman delivered a positive response.

He told MUTV: “I think he could be. He’s obviously got the talent. I don’t want to put too much pressure on him but I don’t see why not.

“The players are just like the fans. When they see a quality player come through the door, it gives them that excitement and you feel it around training. It gives everybody a lift.”

United suffered a surprise defeat at the hands of Stoke City in their last outing and will be determined to get back to winning ways when they host strugglers Fulham at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Red Devils are 1.19 to secure all three points on home soil as they look to close the seven-point gap on their old rivals Liverpool, who currently occupy the last Champions League place.
