Fernando has called on his Manchester City team-mates to carry on their momentum from Sunday’s 2-0 win over West Ham by finishing the season with five more victories.
The Citizens have come in for some heavy criticism in recent weeks following a poor run of form that saw them lose three out of four Premier League outings to fall out of the title race and even jeopardise their chances of a top-four finish.
However, after Sunday’s win they now have a seven-point advantage over Liverpool in the race for the final Champions League spot and, with a fairly favourable run-in, will undoubtedly fancy themselves to see out the season in style.
Summer signing Fernando has struggled since moving to the Etihad and his often unadventurous style of play is seen as epitomising the Citizens’ poor showings this term.
The Brazilian is remaining upbeat and has now called on his side to put their recent failings behind them by winning all five of their remaining fixtures.
“We went through really tough moments but now we are back to winning,” he said. “It was really important to get a victory and now we want to keep form and make sure we try to win the next five matches.
“We know the season has not gone as well as we would have liked but now it is important for us to focus on the last five matches and make sure we get good results from them.”
Next up for City is a clash with FA Cup finalists Aston Villa on Saturday, a match they are 1.25 to win, with the draw 6.00 and the in-form Villans 12.00.
