Romelu Lukaku and Ciro Immobile couldn’t score in a frantic Rome derby that ended goalless on Sunday night.

Lazio went close with a better first-half performance as Luis Alberto’s ball rattled the woodwork.

Roma came back into the game as the Derby dell Capitale ended in a draw that boosts nobody.

Both sides went into the derby with just one point separating them in mid-table.

Roma thought they had scored in the 13th minute but the celebration was cut short as Bryan Cristante who scored from a rebound of Rick Karsdorp’s shot was visibly offside.

Karsdorp with two opportunities in similar situations also failed to keep his half-volleys on target.

Luis Alberto thought he had scored after 25 minutes, but the ferocious, swerving long-range strike beat Rui Patricio only to smash against the frame of the goal.

Rui Patricio was also called into action when he parried Alessio Romagnoli’s header on the Luis Alberto free f off the line at the near bottom corner.

Alberto found himself with a much easier opportunity set up by Mateo Guendouzi, but he ballooned the ball over the bar.
Lazio were able to take Lukaku. The Belgian only notable contribution was a surging run from the midfield that was charged down.
If any of them had won the match, the three points would take them up the standings towards the Champions League places, but a point apiece leaves both stranded mid-table.

Roma are just a point ahead of Lazio in the 7th place on the Serie A table, while Lazio occupy the 10th spot with a point separating both sides after 12 games each.

Reacting to the game, Roma manager Jose Mourinho told DAZN that a point was a positive result, judging from their 2-0 defeat during the midweek of the Europa League against Sparta Prague.
