Chelsea centre-back David Luiz is adamant that he has returned to the club as a better defender, but he is confident boss Antonio Conte could still improve him.

The 29-year-old had an up and down career at Stamford Bridge the first time around and the club decided to cash in on him in 2014.

They sold him for £50million after he made 81 appearances for the club but PSG decided to let him return earlier this summer.

Chelsea signed him for a second time for £34million and he is set to make his second debut for the Blues against Liverpool on Friday night.

The Brazilian is expected to fill in for captain John Terry who picked up an ankle injury during the 2-2 draw with Swansea on Sunday.

Speaking ahead of the game, Luiz is confident he will silence the doubters and improve his game under his new Italian boss.

He told the London Evening Standard: “I have tried to improve and mature day by day. When you try new things of course you improve, that’s why I tried a new league.

“But I want to continue to improve here. I never want to think that I know everything.

I want to learn every day. I feel at home, I feel like I never left. I have a great relationship with everyone.

“The coach (Conte) loves football, that’s why he’s a passionate guy on the bench, celebrating and supporting the team.

“He’s a specialist in tactics and training in a tactical way, I’m excited to learn under him. Every single coach has been important in my professional life.

I want to learn, especially with him and his Italian style in a tactical way, this can make the difference.”
