Barcelona boss Luis Enrique has urged his team to not drop any more points after their lead at the top of La Liga was cut to three points following a 1-0 defeat at Real Sociedad.

Sociedad’s Mikel Oyarzabal scored the only goal of the game after just five minutes and Barcelona were unable to respond. Enrique was without Luis Suarez, Andres Iniesta, Ivan Rakitic and Jordi Alba and the disruption clearly told on Saturday night.

Earlier this month, the reigning champions had a nine-point cushion at the top of the league table. However, back-to-back defeats to Real Madrid and Sociedad have now given others hope.

Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid are now just three points behind, while Real are four back following their 4-0 win over Eibar on Saturday.

Enrique has claimed his side deserved at least a point from the game but he has now demanded more from his side in the final few weeks of the season.

He told reporters: “These games weigh on you. We couldn’t get close to them and we had no luck in the second half. Real Sociedad are always a stone in our shoe.

“It’s obvious that we can’t lose any more points now, we weren’t at our best in recent games and this league will be won be the most consistent team in the remaining games.

“No-one’s going to leave here crying. We’ll get out of it by changing everything and thinking about what we can do. Last year at this stage we were only two points above the second team with a worse head-to-head difference.”

Barcelona’s next league game is against Valencia on April 17 and they are still the heavy favourites at 1.13 to win, with the draw at 8.50 while Valencia are on offer at 15.00.
