Juventus and Italy midfielder Manuel Locatelli has said he shared different views with former Azzurri coach Roberto Mancini.
The former Manchester City manager had led Italy to success in Euro 2020 but failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup.
Speaking during a press conference ahead of their international games, he said it’s an honour, a privilege to be in the team, and a responsibility.

Lauding the appointment of Luciano Spalletti as the new Azzuri coach, he said there is great energy and enthusiasm in their cam, and they are all charged.

The Juventus midfielder was the first player to meet the media at Coverciano on Tuesday, following Spalletti’s appointment at the end of August.

The 25-year-old, who already has 24 caps for Azurri, made 24 was part of the team that won the Euros two years ago but hasn’t played with La Nazionale for over a year, making his last international appearance in June 2022 in a 0-0 draw against England.
The Italian midfielder further expressed delight to be among those who brought the Euro 2022 trophy to Coverciano, adding that the issue of Mancini is past.

Happy to be part of the team after a year’s absence, Locatelli noted that the season has been tough for him and the national team.
The midfielder, who is enthusiastic, said he is the first responsible for what he does on the pitch.
“I spoke to Mancini; we had different views, and something had broken.”

He pointed out that Spalletti, who led Napoli to their first Serie A title in over three decades, mentioned the attachment to the jersey in an emotional speech and said it was important.

“Surely Mancini must be thanked for winning the Euros, then we know how things went. Now, there is the future, and we must focus on that.”
