Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes Daniel Sturridge’s future lies away from Anfield after becoming a less prominent figure in the first team this season.
Sturridge made the switch to Liverpool from Chelsea in 2013 for a fee believed to be around the £12millon mark and the striker was a regular fixture in his first couple of seasons.
The England international scored 31 goals in his first 43 Premier League appearances and was, at the time, one of the in-form players in the English top flight.
However, numerous injuries picked up over the last couple of years have halted his progress and there are real doubts over his long-term future on Merseyside.
The 27-year-old has made just three league starts this term and manager Jurgen Klopp has preferred to use the likes of Brazilian Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane up front.
Sturridge could be handed the chance to prove his worth at home against Manchester United on Monday night, but Carragher feels his time with the Reds will not go on much longer.
“Possibly not,” the former defender said. “Because I think when Jurgen Klopp picks his best team, when everyone’s fit, I don’t think Sturridge is in it, at this moment.”
Liverpool have started the season well and Klopp’s men, who are aiming for a fifth consecutive victory, are quickly becoming title contenders, with the Reds second favourites at 5.50 to lift the Premier League trophy.
