Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge says everyone at the club is desperate to win the title this season as it will help further secure Steven Gerrard’s status as a club legend.

The Reds are currently the form team in the Premier League and a run of eight league wins in a row has taken Brendan Rodgers’ men to the top of the table with just six games remaining.

With Manchester City having two games in hand, they remain the 1.72 favourites but Liverpool certainly aren’t far behind at 2.85 and everything could change when the pair meet at Anfield next weekend.

First up for the Merseysiders is a trip to the capital where they will face West Ham on Sunday and, despite the Hammers’ current good form, they will expect to continue their winning streak at Upton Park.

Claiming the title would be extra special for Gerrard, who has captained the club he joined as a boy to almost every major honour and is rightly viewed as one of the greatest players to ever play for the Anfield outfit.

Sturridge and his strike partner Luis Suarez are likely to be key components of Liverpool’s final push for a first Premier League crown and the England forward says that everyone at the club is pulling together to help ensure Gerrard finally gets the medal he wants most.

“If we win it, Stevie really deserves it, and he should win the Premier League because of everything he has done for this club,” he said. “Every player in this team will do their best to help him achieve that goal.

“He lives and dies for this club, he’s been here his whole career and it’s a great pleasure to play with him. Stevie is the perfect example for every young player around the country – a real example for every player.”
