Liverpool have continued their busy summer of recruitment by securing the signing of Sevilla full-back Alberto Moreno for a transfer fee of £12million.

The Spain international becomes the eighth new face to arrive at Anfield. However, the 22-year-old will not feature in the season-opener against Southampton on Sunday having not been registered in time.

Moreno had been at Sevilla all of his career before making the switch to England, but it was not until last season that the left-back became an undisputed first-choice. He made 29 appearances in La Liga, impressing with his consistent and assured performances.

The Spaniard spoke to fellow countrymen Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa before deciding to move to Liverpool, and is delighted to be joining the ‘best club’ in the Premier League.

“They all told me I can grow a lot here as a footballer as this is a massive club. I hope to give my best and do all I can to help,” he said. “Liverpool are the best club in England and I couldn’t waste an opportunity to come and play for them.”

Liverpool, who finished runners-up to Manchester City for the title last season, open up their campaign by welcoming Southampton to Anfield.

The home side are heavy favourites to grab the win at a price of 1.36 whilst the visitors, who have new manager Ronald Koeman in charge for the first time, are a big outside shot at 7.51.
