Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp has heaped praise on striker Danny Ings as he tries to force his way back into the first team following another spell on the sidelines.

Ings has struggled with injuries ever since he moved to Anfield from Burnley two years ago, with the former England Under-21 star picking up a cruciate ligament injury last season.

He has only managed 30 minutes of action so far in the current campaign but has been a regular scorer for Liverpool’s Under-23 side.

After playing a number of reserve games, Ings is now set to be given his chance in Tuesday’s EFL Cup clash with Tottenham.

The 24-year-old faces plenty of competition for a place although Klopp insists Ings will be ready if needed. He told reporters: “It’s really good.

If I was being a little less sensitive I could say that is his job to do, but I am sensitive and I know it is not easy. He takes the situation in a perfect way but it’s all for him.

“But it is all for him. He was a long time injured. He is fit now, everything is good and, with his attitude, all will be good in the end.

“At the moment his situation is not too easy – we have Roberto (Firmino), Daniel (Sturridge) and Divock (Origi), so there is not a lot of space – but he will be involved in the squad. “It was a long-term injury, but now he is fit, he plays in the Under-23s, everything is good.”

Liverpool are the 1.70 favourites to win the clash against Spurs, with the draw priced at 4.00, while Tottenham can be backed at 5.00.
