Atletico Madrid are sweating over the availability of defender Diego Godin as they approach a testing period of fixtures.

Godin, who is set to be out of contract at the end of the season, has been heavily linked with a move to Inter Milan over recent weeks but still remains a key figure at the Wanda Metropolitano.

The Uruguayan failed to emerge for the second half of Saturday’s derby meeting with Getafe but his absence didn’t prevent Atleti, who can be backed at 21.00 to win the Champions League, from taking all three points.

Antoine Griezmann and Saul Niguez notched to seal a 2-0 victory and subsequently move Atleti within two points of La Liga leaders Barcelona.

It’s now 16 meetings since Getafe last found the back of the net against their Madrid rivals, while Diego Simeone’s side have yet to taste defeat on home soil this season.

But Atletico now face an anxious wait to learn the severity of Godin’s injury after it was officially confirmed in a statement from the club.

Atletico said: “Diego Godin did not complete the derby against Getafe and had to be substituted at the break as a precaution due to muscular problems in his thigh.”

It comes at a bad time for the Spanish outfit as they face a difficult run of fixtures over the next few weeks.

They travel to Real Betis next Sunday before hosting Real Madrid a week later, while they will return to Champions League action against Juventus on February 20.
