Sporting director Klaus Allofs has reiterated that Wolfsburg have no intention of selling Kevin De Bruyne although he says they are preparing for a new offer from Manchester City for the Belgium international.
City, who have opened the Premier League campaign with 3-0 victories against West Brom and Chelsea, have been heavily linked with a move for the 24-year-old throughout the summer.
De Bruyne, who endured a difficult two years at Chelsea, has a contract with Wolfsburg until 2019.
He scored ten league goals last season when he was named as the Bundesliga’s player of the year and helped guide his side to second spot in the German top-flight as well as to success in the DFB Pokal.
“The decisive part is that we don’t want to sell him,” said Allofs. “There could very well be another offer during the next few days.
“However, there are many preconditions indicating that he will stay.”
Meanwhile, head coach Dieter Hecking thinks De Bruyne was below-par in Wolfsburg’s 2-1 opening-day win over Eintracht Frankfurt because of the ongoing speculation about his future.
Hecking said: “The guy played average. He’s allowed to do so. His performance doesn’t always have to be extraordinary.
“What really upset me were the chants coming from certain fans. That’s something you just don’t do. I want to stress this fact.”
Manchester City, who are believed to be willing to spend £43million to land De Bruyne, face Everton on Sunday.
An Everton win is available at 4.75 while a victory for Manuel Pellegrini’s side at Goodison Park can be backed at 1.67. The draw is available at 4.00.
