Keane will not play for Ireland as he is still recovering from an injury.
Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni revealed that Robbie Keane will not take part in their World Cup qualifying match against Austria on Tuesday.
The skipper did not train with the team on Sunday at Gannon Park as he picked up a calf strain in their 0-0 draw with Sweden on Friday.
Despite initial optimism for the 32-year-old’s involvement in the Tuesday tie, it seems that things have gone from bad to worse following a scan on the knock.
The Football Association of Ireland released a statement confirming Keane’s absence from the coming match.
Kevin Doyle has been chosen to fill in for the 23-man international squad.
