John Stones insists Manchester City cannot take anything for granted when they face Celtic in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The Citizens have been magnificent so far this season, winning all 10 of their competitive games and head to Parkhead as the huge 1.33 favourites to win.

Celtic themselves have enjoyed similar domestic dominance but were embarrassed in their opening Champions League Group C fixture, as they were demolished 7-0 by a rampant Barcelona side.

They are often a different prospect in Europe on home turf, however, taking a number of significant scalps in Glasgow over the years and are 8.50 to cause an upset on Wednesday, with the draw 5.50.

It means Brendan Rodgers’ men cannot be disregarded and Stones says he is expecting a difficult night.

The England defender has looked imperious since joining the Citizens in the summer and appears to have rediscovered his form following a difficult time last season at Everton.

Speaking ahead of the match, the 22-year-old says his side, who are 10.00 to win the Champions League, cannot be complacent in their approach to the game, admitting that history shows it will not be easy at Parkhead.

He told the Express: “If you look Celtic have taken some big scalps in this competition.

They have beaten Barcelona and Manchester United up there so you have got to take them seriously.

“We will be the favourites for most people but it does not count for anything once the game starts. They have got quality in their side, otherwise they would not be in the Champions League.”
