Crystal Palace midfielder James McArthur has signed a new three-year contract that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2018.

The Scotland international moved to the Eagles from Wigan in September 2014 and he enjoyed a fine debut season at Selhurst Park as Palace finished 10th in the Premier League.

The 27-year-old scored twice in 32 league appearances for the south London club as he became a mainstay in the middle of the park under Alan Pardew and his fine form has now earned him an extended stay with the club.

The former Hamilton player revealed his delight at signing the new contract and he also confirmed that he expects the club to continue improving during the upcoming campaign.

He said: “I’m delighted. I had a fantastic time last year. I think the club’s going in a great direction, everyone’s positive around the place and I’m really looking forward to the coming years.”

The Scot admitted there was some interest in his services from elsewhere, but he never had any doubt that he was going to remain with the Eagles.

McArthur added: “It was an easy decision. There was nothing really to consider. I think there was a bit of general interest [in me], but Palace is where I want to be. I’m happy and that’s the main thing in football.”

Palace will begin the new campaign with an away trip to take on promoted Norwich.

The Eagles are outsiders at 3.00 to begin the season with a victory, whilst the Canaries are on offer at 2.38, with the draw 3.20.
