Sporting director Matthias Sammer says Bayern Munich do not need Pep Guardiola’s help.
We don’t need Pep Guardiola.
That was the reaction of Bayern Munich sporting director Matthias Sammer as he shut the door close on any attempt for them to ask Guardiola for some tips that may augur well for the German side.
Sammer insisted on Thursday that it would be disrespectful to ask Guardiola for advice on how to beat Barcelona in their Champions League semifinals clash.
With the former Blaugrana boss preparing to take charge of the Bundesliga champion this summer, there has been speculation that the club could be tempted to seek some help from the 42-year-old mentor as they try to beat his old club in the semis starting April 23 at the Allianz Arena.
Sammer, however, feels it would be injust to put Guardiola in such a position, while insisting current coach Jupp Heynckes already has vast knowledge of Spanish football.
“This situation reminds us that football is about respect. Jupp Heynckes is our coach, and even though he was there a few years ago, he knows a lot about Spanish football,” Sammer told Spox.
He added: “Respect also to Guardiola. He has Barcelona in his heart. It would be a problem for him. We will not give him the moral problem of disclosing information about his great love.”
He also stressed that his side are progressing well as they look to replace Barca as the “model” of football.
