Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has made the Ghana international Baba Rahman his third major signing of the summer following the captures of Asmir Begovic and Radamel Falcao.

The left-back moves to Stamford Bridge from Augsburg following Mourinho’s decision to allow Filipe Luis to return to Atletico Madrid after spending just one season with the Blues.

It’s believed Chelsea have paid £17.7million for the defender although the transfer fee could rise to £20million if a series of add-ons are met.

Rahman said: “I am very happy to sign for Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world, and I can’t wait to train with my new team-mates and am very much looking forward to working with them and Mr Mourinho.”

The 21-year-old helped Augsburg finish fifth in the Bundesliga last season.

Despite Rahman’s arrival, Mourinho is expected to continue his attempt to land the Everton defender John Stones in the final days of the transfer window.

Meanwhile, Mourinho described his side’s 3-0 defeat at Manchester City on Sunday as “fake”.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side eased to victory against Chelsea to open up a five-point gap over the Premier League champions, with Mourinho saying: “The best team in the first half won the game. The best team in the second half was Chelsea, for sure.

“3-0 is completely fake because at 1-0 Chelsea was the better team in the whole second half.”

Chelsea are now 4.00 to be the Premier League champions this season while they can be backed at 1.67 to beat West Brom at The Hawthorns on Sunday.
