Liverpool new-boy Georginio Wijnaldum says he is relishing the opportunity to work under Jurgen Klopp after completing his switch on Friday.

The former PSV captain moved to England last summer with Newcastle off the back of a title triumph in the Netherlands.

The 25-year-old netted 11 league goals, all at St James’ Park, and finished 2015-16 as the club’s top-scorer, although he couldn’t save them from relegation.

Wijnaldum made it clear that he wanted to leave the north-east outfit after they dropped into the Championship and Liverpool have paid £25million for his services.

The Netherlands international is now set to travel out to the United States to link up with his new team-mates on their pre-season tour.

Klopp hopes that he can slot straight into training as he looks to have the new signing up to speed by the time the season gets up-and-running.

“The plan is – I heard nothing else – that he will fly tomorrow morning and will then be here tomorrow and join training.

We will see,” Klopp said. “He was in full training with Newcastle so there aren’t a lot of special things we have to do. We can involve him immediately in normal training, hopefully.”

The midfielder admitted that it was a dream come true to sign for Liverpool, who are priced at 9.00 to win the league, and insists he is keen to see what life is like under the German tactician.

Wijnaldum said: “I’m really excited because Liverpool is a big club with a great history and it’s always a dream to play for as big a club as Liverpool.

“[He seems] a great man – from the outside – because I don’t know how he works yet and I have to work with him.

“[But] I always love to watch him, his passion as a trainer, I like how he enjoys the game. He gives something back to the group [with his passion] so I look forward to working with him.”
