Blackburn boss Owen Coyle insists the club have not received a formal approach from Celtic for defender Shane Duffy.

The Republic of Ireland international enjoyed an impressive campaign with Rovers last season, scoring four goals in 41 Championship appearances, before representing his country at the Euro 2016.

The 24-year-old’s impressive form has led to speculation linking him with a move to Scottish Premiership champions Celtic, but Coyle has confirmed the club are yet to receive an official approach from the Glasgow giants.

He told reporters: “In regards to Shane, there’s been no concrete offers from Celtic, in terms of a written offer, so that’s the only thing I can class as interest. “If there’s other people speculating, then I can’t really comment on that.

I only deal in the facts and the fact is there’s been no concrete offer from Glasgow Celtic for Shane Duffy.”

Blackburn have already sold captain Grant Hanley to league rivals Newcastle this summer and they are believed to be in the market for a new central defender, with Ipswich’s Tommy Smith being linked with a move to Ewood Park.

Former Burnley boss Coyle has denied the club have made an approach for any potential transfer target, but he confirmed the Blue and Whites are in the market for new recruits.

He added: “We will be linked with centre-backs and I think it’s fair to say we have been looking to strengthen areas of the pitch.

But I can say that we don’t have an actual firm offer in for anybody.”

Rovers will kick-off the new Championship season with a home match against Norwich on August 6 and they are available at 2.75 to win the match, while the Canaries are on offer at 2.60 and the draw is priced at 3.10.
