Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain have progressed to the quarter-finals of the French Cup after defeating Breat 3-1 at the Parc des Princes.
The Paris club had gone two goals ahead inside 37 minutes courtesy of goals from Kylian Mbappe and Danilo Perreira before the guests reduced the deficit in the 65th minute through Steve Mounie following a well-worked counter-attack.
The hosts later restored their two-goal lead in the added time through Goncalo Ramos to take the game beyond their visitors.
Brest had secured a draw at Parc des Princes earlier in the season in Ligue 1. They almost broke the deadlock when Martin Satriano hit the post with a fine curled effort after 30 minutes.
But from there, PSG took control; Mbappe scored his 30th of the season when he opened the scoring with a driven shot from a tight angle.
Mbappe, who will leave the team next summer, showed how vital he is to Luis Enrique, and he was vital in multiple facets of the game.
The 2018 World Cup winner took the opening goal wonderfully, pressed diligently, and created opportunities for others.
With such performance regularly before his exit, the Parisians will feel they will have a chance every time they step on the pitch.
Brest center-back Lilian Brassier, who struggled with Mbappe all evening, didn’t do himself any favors by lunging into tackles for all of his 70 minutes on the pitch. He was sent off after his second yellow card, which was particularly idiotic. Brassier dangerously stamped on Mbappe’s calf as he ran in on goal.
PSG will return to action in the French ligue1 when they welcome LOSC Lille to their home on Saturday night. They look to be running away with the title this time as they currently top the log with 47 points after 20 games, 8 points above OGC Nice occupies the second spot.
After that, they will focus on the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie with Real Sociedad.
