Left-back Leighton Baines has refused to rule Everton out of the race to finish in the top four of the Premier League.
The Blues are currently in 11th place in the table, 10 points behind fourth-placed Tottenham, but Baines feels they can push on if they learn how to “manage games”.
Everton drew 3-3 at Chelsea on Saturday although they should have taken all three points and were only denied by an incorrect offside decision deep into injury time.
“We’ve only got ourselves to blame for not managing the game well enough really,” England international Baines told reporters.
“We went in front again, 3-2, and threw it away. The goal was offside but we have to manage games better. If we’re better at doing that we’re right in the mix for the Champions League but, over the course of the season, you end up where you deserve to be.
“There are positives in how well we played to get 2-0 up. To go to Stamford Bridge and score three goals is great but we weren’t hanging on.
“We just didn’t do well enough for a short spell that the champions are always going to have at home. We’re disappointed in the manner we’ve come away with a point.”
Everton are next in action on Sunday when they host strugglers Swansea at Goodison Park.
The Blues, who are 1.67 to beat the Swans, are currently 21.00 to finish in the top four this season.
