Everton youngster Jonjoe Kenny insists he is not merely making up the numbers this season as he tries to impress manager Ronald Koeman in the coming months.

Kenny put pen to paper on a new deal with the club last week, with the defender extending his stay at Goodison Park until at least 2019.

The full-back has made a big impression on the club’s staff since coming through the club’s academy system.

Kenny, who has represented England at Under-16, 17, 18 and 19 levels, made his Premier League debut last season under caretaker boss David Unsworth.

The 19-year-old was given his chance against Norwich following Roberto Martinez’s sacking after two successful loan spells at Wigan and Oxford.

Koeman sees a bright future for the youngster at the club, but he has plenty of competition for places as he aims to play regularly in the first team.

Leighton Baines, Bryan Oviedo, Seamus Coleman and Tyias Browning are all in front of Kenny in the pecking order but he is confident he can still make an impression.

“Hopefully I’ll get another chance in the first team this season, that’s my aim,” he told the Liverpool Echo. “I’m not here just to be one of the lads, I want to be a first-team footballer.

“I want to get into the first team and if that doesn’t happen then I’ll try and go on loan but my first aim is to get into the first team and break through.”

Kenny will be hoping to help play his part in a successful campaign for the Toffees as they try to qualify for Europe. Koeman’s men are currently priced at odds of 9.00 with Dafabet to qualify for the Champions League.
