Everton manager Roberto Martinez is giving both midfielder Muhamed Besic and defender Seamus Coleman plenty of time to prove their fitness ahead of Saturday’s trip to Swansea City.
Both players were forced from the field in Everton’s superb 3-1 victory over Chelsea last weekend and now face a race against time to be fit for the trip to the Liberty Stadium.
Besic and Coleman have been influential players this season and the loss of the pair would be a double blow to the Toffees, as Martinez prepares to face his former club.
However, the former Swans boss is optimistic regarding the duo and hopes at least one, if not both, will be able to play this weekend in south Wales, with Everton available at 3.25 to get all three points.
Martinez told evertontv: “I think Seamus felt a lot better than Mo but we’re going to get the scans done today so we have a clear idea.
“I don’t think it looks as bad as we feared once it happened but we’ll get more information as the week goes on and we’ll see how long a period we’re looking at for the two players.”
He added: “They were the only two to pick up knocks against Chelsea, so everyone else from that squad is fully fit for the weekend.”
Everton will be full of confidence following that victory over the reigning Premier League champions in their last outing.
Both Premier League fixtures were draws between these two teams last season, with another stalemate at 3.30 this time around, while Swansea are 2.30 to get the win.
