Everton’s hopes of landing Spurs star Aaron Lennon may depend on whether they sell Kevin Mirallas to West Ham.

Spurs may have priced Roberto Martinez out of making a move for winger Lennon by asking for £9m for his services, but if they manage to net around £8m for Belgium winger Mirallas then a deal could be on.

Mirallas, who looks ready to move on after a patchy last season, has just one year left on his current deal at Goodison Park and therefore would be available for free next summer and could talk to any interested parties in just six months’ time.

Everton do not want him to move for free next year so would much rather he was sold and West Ham are said to be keen after they sold Stewart Downing to Middlesbrough for £7m last week.

Meanwhile, Lennon is also heading into the final year of his present contract at White Hart Lane and he too will be available for nothing in just over 12 months, so it is in Spurs’ interests to sell him before the transfer window closes.

Lennon spent a spell on loan at Everton last season but whether or he will be in their ranks for their opening game with Watford remains to be seen.

The Blues are 1.75 to kick off the season with a win at Goodison Park.
