Everton are ready to make an offer for former Manchester United left-back Alex Buttner, who is now at Dinamo Moscow, as he looks for cover for the injured Leighton Baines.

Toffees boss Roberto Martinez is said to be keen to bring in an experienced left-back as England international Baines is sidelined for up to 12 weeks following surgery on an ankle injury earlier this week.

Youngster Brendan Galloway started last weekend’s Premier League opener against Watford and is trusted to fill-in for now but Martinez is on the lookout for a new signing with Baines absent.

Fellow youngster Luke Garbutt has been allowed to join Fulham on a season-long loan, while Costa Rica international Bryan Oviedo is another option but he has had plenty of injury problems over the past few years and has only just returned to fitness following a hamstring problem.

Buttner left United in 2014 after an unsuccessful two-year spell at Old Trafford where he made just 13 Premier League appearances but the 26-year-old may fancy a return to England as he feels he has unfinished business.

A loan move could be a possibility but Dinamo may accept an offer in the region of £3million for Buttner, who has just under two years left on his contract with the Russian side.

Everton are priced at 26.00 to be relegated this season while they are also available at 26.00 to secure a top-four finish, with a lot depending on how they fare without Baines in what looks like a tough opening run of fixtures.
